Week 6 review - Poverty Bay come from behind to score bonus point victory
Poverty Bay came from behind to score three tries and beat Horowhenua-Kapiti 30-19 in the Lochore Cup at Rugby Park, Gisborne, on Saturday.
Down 8-19 after 53 minutes, Poverty Bay hit back with three tries and a 50m penalty from second five-eighth Ian Logan for a popular victory in the opening game of this split round.
Tim Gardner, who started the game at centre but finished on the wing, began the revival for the home team with a try under the posts in the 57th minute. It followed good work by openside flanker Quentin King.
Four minutes later replacement fullback Kahu Tamatea capped off an attack by both the forwards and backs with a try in the corner.
With eight minutes remaining, replacement centre Jack Brooking waltzed through the defence to put his side ahead 27-19, leaving Logan to complete the comeback with the last kick of the game.
Although on the losing side, Dion Nepia had an outstanding game for the visitors, scoring all of his team's points.
